William gone through his experience looking for a light weight full text search indexer. after considering scalability, memory consumption, database_dependent? and stability and he picked Xapian with Xapain-Fu interface. He showed us how easy to start using Xapian.

another candidate Solr was recommended for larger scale enterprise level architecture.

Adam demonstrated two awesome free agile project management tools:

- Pivotal Tracker http://www.pivotaltracker.com/

- Story Mapper (Carbon Five) http://www.trackerstorymaps.com/

Pivotal Tracker is a full-feature tool which handles user story, backlog, release, … etc.

Story Mapper integrates on top of Pivotal Tracker to manage large projects with lots of stories, modules and complicated releases.

They provide clean and smooth-running user interface to visualize everything. well-organized.

Merb + Rails = Rails3

It’s christmas, baby, and do we have a present for you. We’re ending the bickering between Merb and Rails with a this bombshell: Merb is being merged into Rails 3!

http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2008/12/23/merb-gets-merged-into-rails-3

From Zed:

(Mongrel+Erb) == Rails?

Fucking awesome. I’m so glad that DHH and friends were able to put away
their stupid competitive bullshit and realize they have the chance to make
something better. Too bad it’s probably too late in the project to make
an impact, but it does give me some hope that Ruby people are actually
trying to be nicer.
